BOURGEOIS GUITAR ENDORSER BAGS RECORD IBMA AWARD HAUL
Darrin Vincent and Jamie Dailey, better known as the duo Dailey and Vincent, took home seven awards at the annual IBMA Awards at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, including nods for Entertainer of the Year, Emerging Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year for their self-titled debut on Rounder Records. Jamie Daily took the Ryman stage with a Bourgeois Vintage Dreadnought in Honduras rosewood and spruce to perform the tune “By the Mark,” which won this year’s award for Gospel Recorded Performance.

NAMM OPENS REQUEST FOR FOUNDATION GRANT PROPOSALS
Always seeking new ways to reach aspiring musicians, NAMM has opened a request for grant proposals from nonprofit organizations with innovative ideas about how to expand access and participation in music making. An application can be found online at nammfoundation.org.

Ovation unveiled its new iDea guitar at a press conference at Kaman Music headquarters in Bloomfield, Connecticut, this September. The iDea, which features an MP3 recorder and player built into its preamp, enables the guitarist to record song ideas directly from the guitar, store over 90 minutes of audio, and play along. The guitar can also simultaneously record vocal ideas from a built-in microphone and download MP3 files to a computer via a USB cable. In a unique partnership, Ovation and online lesson pioneer WorkshopLive are working together to make the iDea a powerful educational tool right out of the box. The iDea comes preloaded with a selection of WorkshopLive audio lessons, and the dedicated iDea website includes additional downloadable lessons. OvationiDea.com, which was constructed and will be maintained by WorkshopLive, also includes dozens of downloadable jam tracks. Look for a full review of the Ovation iDea in an upcoming issue of Acoustic Guitar.

Fishman began shipping its Best of NAMM–winning SoloAmp personal PA system in late September. Dean Markley, meanwhile, released its own new amplifier, the UltraSound DSX PowerStack 100, which lends additional versatility and power to its existing UltraSound line in a more portable stack configuration. Kluson resurrected and improved the “Kluson Super” machine head, which adorned and distinguished many Martin Dreadnoughts of the 1950s—and which have been rare enough on the vintage market to frustrate more than a few restorations.
