REVERBNATION SPONSORED SONGS
The online music-marketing and promotion platform ReverbNation has introduced its new Sponsored Songs program. Participation is determined by artists’ performance on ReverbNation’s Band Equity Score (a combination of data that includes page views, song downloads, etc.), with up to 1,000 artists becoming eligible. Under the program, participating musicians will be paid 50 cents per qualified download acquired by their fans. Each song will incorporate a small section of branded messaging within the digital cover art, which will be displayed to the consumer every time the song is played on music devices. Songs are tracked as they are passed from fan to fan, allowing the brand sponsor to capture ongoing value as the music is shared virally.

The first Sponsored Songs campaign will begin mid-June and will last 90 days. Accepted artists will provide songs for use in the program and will use ReverbNation’s marketing tools to promote the free downloads to their fan bases. Artists will be allowed to opt out of any campaign prior to launch if they do not approve of the sponsor. reverbnation.com

INTELLITOUCH PT10 TUNER
OnBoard Research has introduced its latest clip-on tuner. The new Intellitouch PT10 ($39.95) pushes the boundaries for small, compact size while still having a large, easy-to-read backlit display. Features include a needle-style display, calibration from 430 Hz to 450 Hz, and a multicolor backlight that makes tuning easier by glowing red when your instrument is out of tune and green when it’s in tune. tuners.com

BUILD A TEACHING BUSINESS
What you need to consider before you start lining up students.
By Jeff Snow

Many guitar pros teach occasional lessons on the side, but have you ever thought about teaching as a more substantial part-time or even full-time job? With some savvy planning, you can build a steady and profitable teaching practice.

Where to Teach
Think about where you live and where the students will come from. They need to be able to get to you easily. Many teachers work from their home for all or a part of their schedule, which has its benefits. Having students come to you means that you will have needed supplies and materials close by. Being home is also an advantage when you have an open lesson slot. [more]
