Irving Sloane, who inspired the guitar-making renaissance of the 1970s with his book Classic Guitar Construction, the first how-to lutherie book, died on June 21 at the age of 73. In addition to publishing three more books, Guitar Repair, Steel-String Guitar Construction, and Making Musical Instruments, Sloane also designed innovative new classical guitar tuning machines and woodworking tools.
